**Process requires reformat every 4 months

Microsoft has confirmed that once the 30 day trial period of a non-licensed version of Windows 7 is up, users can enter "slmgr -rearm" in a command prompt to be granted another 30 days of pretty OS life. This process can be repeated up to 3 times, at the end of which the OS goes into it's full nag mode. After which you can purchase it and go about your merry way, or (I assume) format and start the annoying process all over again.
