Microsoft says HD isn't needed for Xbox 360 anymore

In a column written by Black Rock Studio technical director David Jefferies, he revealed that Microsoft has removed the 1280x720 (720p) minimum resolution from it's TCR (Technical Certification Requirements). This 'requirement' has been somewhat of a hot topic in the past, as some high caliber games such as Halo 3 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare have had special passes in this category and have used lower resolutions, such as 1152x640 in Halo 3's case.

The column brings up some decent points, saying that a lot of the 720p LCD TV's that people are using are actually running at 1366x768, which means even when fed a 720p signal, they have to use their built in scaler to convert the picture to their native resolution. So now developers have the option to choose the resolution they want, as well as the level of full-screen Anti-Aliasing to use (that requirement has been dropped as well).

I know all the PC gamers will still be running their games in resolutions at sometimes double that of their console partners. But what do you think of the new policy? Is a higher native resolution game better than having a lower res that has better framerate, more shaders, etc?
