Spawn Labs allows remote console playing

Today Spawn Labs has launched their HD-720 box. Besides having a terribly uncreative name, they're hoping to do for gaming what the Slingbox did for TV watching. It's essentially the same concept with some twists, you hook up your console(s) up to the HD-720, hook the device up to the internet, then you're free to play your games in 720p remotely on your desktop/laptop anywhere you have broadband internet access. One of the biggest twists they throw in is allowing you to hook up and play on a friends console, to play while they're not using it or to play some multiplayer action.

It'll be interesting to see how well this service lines up with the other streaming services, such as OnLive. This definitely has some drawbacks though, even if it all works exactly how it's being advertised, you're still only able to play the game that you last left in the game console. And just like OnLive, it still needs to be proven that they can offer fast enough reactions for twitch gaming.

The HD-720 is available right now for $199. Plus another $30 for the proper controller adapter for each console's controller. They're currently supporting Xbox, Xbox 360, PS3, PS2 and Gamecube.
