USB Electronic Key Impressioner moves locksmiths into the digital age

Ok, so technically you don't have to be a locksmith to be able to reap the benefits of this device, although the company says that the tool will only be available to locksmiths and "authorized security professionals". Right. Digital thiefs aside, Alternative Production Solutions (APS) is working on an Electronic Key Impressioner (EKI). The EKI takes the skillful tedius process of manual lock impressioning, and instead electronically maps the lock and provides the "authorized security professional" with a key code that they can use to easily cut a working key.

The EKI is designed for use on wafter tumber locks (the type used on most homes and older cars), and right now APS only has it working on Ford cars that use simple metal keys. Put away those bump keys & pick guns, and set aside those 'old fashioned' pick/rake sets, it's time to go digital.
